October 2018

Dear Mulligan Families,

It’s hard to believe that we have finished our first month of the school year already. Our scholars have settled in and are working hard. The Million Father March, Meet the Teacher Night, Summer Reading Ice Cream Social and our Hispanic Heritage Celebration were all a huge success—thanks to all our Mulligan families for attending. Below is a brief overview of a few important announcements and descriptions of our upcoming events for the month of October.  For your convenience, I have enclosed the entire calendar of events for the month of October.

  • Bucket Filler Character of the Month: Our character value for the month of October is Trustworthiness. Throughout this month, we will be stressing the importance of being honest and following rules.  We hope you will find ways to reinforce these important lessons at home.

  • The “Kiki” Reading Challenge:  The popular rapper Drake comes to Mulligan Elementary.  Well, not really.  But we are using our own version of his song to encourage reading.  Each month your child will be encouraged to read (or be read to) on a daily/nightly basis as part of their homework routine.  As a reward, students will be invited to an ice cream social.  As a bonus, please have your child sing Mulligan’s version of the “Kiki” song to you.  Feel free to sing it as well.

  • Community Service Program:  Teaching students the importance of helping others is an important value at Mulligan Elementary School.  We want all of our scholars to know that even at a young age, they can make a difference.  Thus, our community service program is integrated into the curriculum across all grade levels.  Although they will complete their weekly community service logs in class, please encourage volunteerism outside the classroom.

  • Reminders: For safety reasons, parents/guardians/other relatives/friends, please have identification available when picking up a student from school.

  • Attendance:  Parents please ensure that your child arrives at school on time (9:09 am) and picked up immediately after the 3:09 pm dismissal.  Please note, your valuable input has assisted in creating a more effective arrival and dismissal.  However, there is no flexibility when students habitually arrive late to school or who are left waiting for someone to pick them up, (sometimes an hour and a half after dismissal).  Let’s work together to provide our young scholars with a positive school experience from the beginning until the conclusion of the day.  If needed, there is information in the main office regarding before and after school childcare.

Once again, Mulligan family I want to thank you for all of your support.  Remember, “Educating Children for College, Career and Beyond…….We are all in this Together!”
